benson but political edor for townhall.com wrote in september, 2012, talking about president barack obama's re-election. has been running millions of dollars worth of advertisements claiming that mitt romney's plans will raise taxes on middle class americans. this isn't true. romney promises precisely the opposite. in factcheck.org has called out democrats for repeated -- repeatedly debunked the charge. to paraphrase president clinton's d.n.c., it takes a lot of brass for criticizing someone for doing something you've done yourself. so before we get into the last punch line, let's go back to videotape. online it had a video that could be punched. it was president barack obama speaking. part of his quote says, i can make a firm pledge under my plan no family making less than $250,000 will see any form of tax increase. not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains tax. not any of your taxes. the article goes on. this man's firm pledges aren't worth too much, are they? it's worth -- if only to marvel at the sheer hypocrisy. congressional budget office determined that mill

messaging. i think that president obama president obama did a much better job making the election about dancing horses and contraception and gay marriage. but it's not about that. we are going down the tubes and we have this massive onslaught of taxes coming on in the midst of a terrible economy. greg: i asked this of mary katharine ham. a republicans making a big mistake by being painted into a corner as defending the rich? >> i think that if it gets portrayed like that -- republicans are terrible and they need to learn how to talk about fiscal responsibility in a bright and positive way. they have not been very good at that. mitt romney, though i thought he turned out to be a strong candidate, he always we failed to tell the story of low taxes and limited government and freedom. so republicans need to learn how to do this much better. greg: charlie, thank you so much. it's good to see you. jenna: turning next to the new generation of al qaeda fighters. they may have new tactics, but their goal is still to destroy our way of life. up next, a closer look at what really do we face in the

think the obama administration, the justice department are trying to figure it out because what happened on election day was in washington and colorado it became the first two states in the country and actually the first two political jurisdictions anywhere in the world to decide to legally regulate marijuana like alcohol, so the feds have to figure this out. >> a little like alcohol. i can buy as many bottles of beer as i want. i can only have an ounce of marijuana in washington and in colorado, right? >> that's right. it's important to say, by the way, that what's going to happen this week in washington state and next month in colorado is just going to make it legal to possess up to an ounce in the privacy of your home. you can't go out smoking in public, all this sort of thing. the part -- >> you have to stay in your home really? >> yes. washington is going to be private. not puffing down the street. this is going to be fairly subtle. the part of the laws that say that washington and colorado state governments should set up a legal regulatory system like with alcohol, those don't ente

of president obama's nominees to the district and circuit courts. during the last presidential election, 2008, the senate confirmed a total of 28 judges, 24 district and four circuit. this presidential election year, we have exceeded those numbers. we have confirmed five circuit nominees, and mr. shea's confirmation will be the 33rd district judge confirmed. that then adds up to a total of 38 judges this year versus 28 in the last presidential election year. finally, i would note that mr. shea was not reported out of committee by a unanimous vote. there were concerns about part of his record, and that resulted in a few no votes in committee, but i want members on my side of the aisle to know that i supported the nomination in committee and i will do so today. i'm not telling other people how they should vote, but it was split on our side. but for those who argue that republicans have delayed this nomination just to obstruct, that is not the case. i congratulate mr. shea on his confirmation -- at least expected confirmation, and i will put the remainder of my statement in the record. the presi

line and doesn't appear to be willing to bend on that and just had an election where the american people used a federalized voice to send a mandate that they wanted the leadership president obama would commdemonstrate in second term because he ran on the issue, isn't it something speaker bainer can get through, get enough republicans to stomach this and avoid pushing everyone to the cliff, all the drama that surrounds this? >> speaker boehner is obviously in a tough position and trying to provide leadership in a sensitive and difficult time in the party's history, and there was surely, i surely agree with you, thomas, that the president was reelected, but also re-election happened for the republican majority in the house of representatives, and there's a world view out there in terms of what the president believes that says that we need more spending, we are are government is the solution but i also remind you there's a world view that says we don't have a revenue problem. we have a spending problem, and that we should bring spending under control, obviously when you send proposal

president obama on tv a month or so before election seen he wasn't concerned about the deficit. i have a question to ask that i've been wondering. to solve these people on medicaid that obama put on medicaid, does that come out of the medicare program? >> guest: yes it does. it certainly does. part of the reason i like the right purpose on medicaid, essentially to broccoli and the program to the states -- this is not a cut in spending come up with in the future increases to population growth and inflation, something like that. we found the states do exactly what we did welfare in 1990s. most people on both sides argue well. the great thing about paul's proposal as it's not new stuff. a lot of it has to do is another context. what's new is he at the political courage and skill to put in a package you could pass out. >> host: the geo-plan is to create a fiscal crisis of them privatize social security and medicare. just go absolutely not true. looks great in the fiscal crisis is not done with medicare and social security right now. our aim is to say those programs and expand for future ge
